Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy says a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine “must exclude Hamas”. A salon owner outside Bondi Junction Westfield has told Sky News NSW Political Reporter Julia Bradley a client’s husband ended up in the middle of the tragic stabbing incident as it unfolded. “Her husband came to pick her up in Myers and then she heard the gunshots,” she told Sky News. “It was too late, he had already entered to collect her and he ended up in the ladies change rooms with two of the women who had been stabbed for the past two and a half hours. “And then a deceased person was out the front so he has been counselling them for the past two hours. “He is not fit enough to do the interview so I said I would do it for him.”

In a statement on social media platform X, Mr Dutton said “Australians will be in shock this evening at the tragic and terrifying events which have taken place at Westfield Bondi Junction." The Opposition leader said "we grieve" those who passed. “We pray for those who have been rushed to hospital with injuries. We are thinking of all those families whose loved ones have been caught up in this attack,” he posted. “In the horror of this afternoon, there was also heroism. We thank the police officers and first responders who acted so quickly, put themselves in harm’s way, and saved others.”

Lifeguard Andrew Reid has detailed his horrific account of the stabbing incident inside Bondi Junction Westfield which has resulted in multiple fatalities. “A guy came up to us from Myer and said, ‘Mate, everyone has got to leave, there’s people getting stabbed’,” he told Sky News Australia. “Then we heard two gunshots but they were around the corner and as I looked down on level four, there was a lady down there, just, there was so much blood and I was like, ‘Oh I’ve got to go help’. “The roller door was shut down there too and I said to the guy, mate you’ve got to let me out, I have got go and help. “I went around and there was just all so much blood and I went to help … we all just started working on this girl and looking for stab wounds. “There was just victims sort of just every 50 metres and there was at least four.”

Sky News host Laura Jayes has given an emotional tribute to the death of a mother who was killed in the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing. The death toll of the Bondi attack has risen to seven including the offender. Ms Jayes described the victim as an “incredible person”. “She was incredible and if you have a new baby like that … you are still well and truly in the newborn phase, you are with that baby all the time,” Ms Jayes said. “I can’t imagine her needing to hand over the most precious thing in her life and they both went into surgery, her husband not knowing if either of them survived. “She was an incredible athlete, she was so smart, she was so beautiful, and she was just so excited to be a new mother and all of that was ripped away in seconds.” The mother’s nine-month-old newborn was also stabbed in the attack, undergoing surgery, and remaining in hospital.

Mr Albanese’s comments come after police confirmed five have been killed and several have been conveyed to hospital following the stabbing at the shopping centre. “This was a horrific act of violence indiscriminately targeted at innocent people going about an ordinary Saturday doing their shopping,” Mr Albanese said during a media conference on Saturday. “Tonight, the first thoughts of all Australians are with the victims of these terrible acts and their loved ones. “Our nation offers our deepest condolences and sympathies – to all those who are grieving for someone they’ve lost and we send our strength to those who have been injured. “Today, Bondi Junction was a scene of shock and violence, but it was all witness to the humanity and heroism of our fellow Australians, our brave police, our first responders and of course everyday people who could have never imagined that they would face such a moment.”

NSW Police Central Metropolitan Region Commander Anthony Cooke says he has been advised five people have been killed in the Bondi Junction Westfields stabbing. Mr Cooke also indicated the alleged offender is “now deceased”. He says there are more than “several other people who have been conveyed to hospital”. “A number of those are in critical condition,” Mr Cooke said during a media conference on Saturday. “I am content that there is no continuing threat. “Police, as I have said, commenced investigations into the matter which will continue into the evening.”

A Bondi Junction shopper has given NSW Political Reporter Julia Bradley her account of the panic which followed a violent and fatal incident inside the precinct. Police confirmed five people have been killed and a further number have been conveyed to hospital after a man brandished a knife inside the Westfield. “We heard a lady screaming and she was saying, ‘Help me! Help me!’,” the witness told Sky News. “Someone said, ‘Oh someone has been stabbed’ but at that point, it didn’t sound real. “We saw cops running and after that, we heard around four gunshots and as soon as the gunshots went off, everyone just ran into the shops.”

Voting is now underway for the south Sydney seat of Cook. The electorate has been made vacant by former prime minister Scott Morrison. The Liberal Party has selected Simon Kennedy to be his potential replacement. Mr Kennedy, who failed to secure the seat of Bennelong in the 2022 federal election, will not be able to vote for himself as he only recently moved to the electorate after the electoral rolls closed. Qantas has re-routed its non-stop Perth to London flights following concerns of an Iranian attack on Israel. Flights will stop in Singapore for the foreseeable future to avoid Iranian airspace. “We’re temporarily adjusting the flight paths for our flights between Perth and London due to the situation in parts of the Middle East,” a Qantas spokesperson said. Australia has also updated its travel advice for citizens, warning against travel to Israel. The advice to Australians is to “reconsider your need to travel” to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories due to the “volatile security situation” in the region.
