Sky News host James Macpherson says the cost of living crisis is about to get worse as the price of your morning coffee is “about to go up”. Melbourne coffee is too cheap and cafes need to “be brave and adjust up” or risk closure in a few years’ time, according to St Ali boss Lachlan Ward. “Would you pay $6.50 for a takeaway flat white or latte?” Mr Macpherson said. “Because that’s the price industry leaders reckon they are going to have to charge in order to survive. “If you are one of those trendy types ... and you like almond milk, you could well be paying $7 for a cup of coffee.”

Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson reveals the Albanese government will announce special envoys for anti-Semitism and Islamophobia to deal with the disintegration of social cohesion in Australia. It comes as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong stand accused of presiding over the worst rise in anti-Semitism since World War II, according to Ms Markson. Jillian Segal, a lawyer and former president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, is the frontrunner for the anti-Semitism envoy. The idea is the two figures would report to the Prime Minister rather than just the minister for multicultural affairs. The Sky News host said she has been campaigning behind the scenes for an anti-Semitism envoy for five months. “Here in Australia, I'm told the Albanese government hasn't been able to settle on what they believe is the right person for the job and that's why they've been taking such a long time in making this announcement,” Ms Markson said. “Instead, they've been allowing anti-Semitism to fester.”

Israeli MP Sharren Haskel says Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong calling for a Palestinian state is “rewarding Hamas”. Ms Wong called for a Palestinian state on Tuesday night, stating it is the key to peace in the Middle East. “I’m actually quite shocked,” Ms Haskel said. “Matter of fact this is coming only from a lack of understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a lack of understanding of what is actually happening in the Middle East. “Israel is fighting radical Islam and a declaration like that is actually rewarding terrorism.”

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says renewable investors do not need government subsidies to succeed as they should just be able to “sell” the product to the Australian people. “It is a stitch up of Australian taxpayers,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “It is also quite revealing as well … backers and supporters of renewables they are asking for more subsidies. “Itself undermines their own arguments which are made separately that renewable energy is the cheapest form of power. “You don’t need government subsidies to succeed, you just need to sell the product.”

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says two more studies say the transgender movement has “gone too far and put children in danger”. One is a 15-year study of 2700 children by the University of Groningen in Holland which found children who felt they had the wrong gender, or were confused, tended to grow out of it. At the start of the research, 11 per cent of the children said they had 'gender non-contentedness'. When they reached 25, just four per cent felt that way. “This study might help adolescents to realise that it is normal to have some doubts about one's identity and one's gender identity during this age period," Mr Bolt said. “As such, policies that prohibit gender transition for minors make a great deal of sense.”

Hawkesbury Mayor Sarah McMahon is calling for the Warragamba Dam to be raised but says NSW Premier Chris Minns “refuses to even talk to me”. “From an economic position I don’t see how investing in raising a dam wall as a mitigation measure does not stack up against all the money the governments are paying every single time it floods,” Ms McMahon told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “Every single time we’re costing hundreds of millions of dollars in floods. “And you can’t win mitigation measures first to stop that? “Not only that but as you’ve probably heard over the last few days, Mr Minns refuses to even talk to me on the subject matter.”

NSW Premier Chris Minns is facing pressure to prove he is sufficiently mitigating flooding risks as some residents along the Hawkesbury-Nepean River recover from a seventh flooding disaster in 18 months, reports NSW Political Reporter Julia Bradley. At the height of the torrential rain on Saturday, 80,000 Olympic swimming pools worth of water spilled from Warragamba Dam every hour, New South Wales’ biggest source of drinking water. The Premier is proposing a plan which would see Sydney’s desalination plant double its capacity while reducing Warragamba Dam’s maximum capacity. The proposal could help protect Sydney’s supply of drinking water while protecting residents living near the dam, from spillage. Meanwhile, the construction of new homes has been banned in flood-prone areas of New South Wales. The Minns government is also investing $200 million in improving evacuation routes and building flood levees.

Sky News host Chris Kenny says the “woke attitudes” of outgoing ADF Chief General Angus Campbell’s leadership shows something needs to change within the outfit. “Isn’t the point that something needs to change,” Mr Kenny said. “I have focussed on the woke attitudes of Angus Campbell and his leadership. “But also, in this period there has been monumental stuff ups and delays in defence procurement. “Not least in the submarine area so the whole outfit needs to sharpen up, doesn’t it?”

Sky News host Peta Credlin claims Melbourne is becoming a “shadow of its former self” after new details came to light about a report into safe injecting rooms from former police chief Ken Lay. Mr Lay was tasked with leading consultations into a CBD-safe injecting room in 2020, with his findings finally handed over to the government last year after a lengthy delay. Nine News reported on Monday night that Mr Lay had listed three CBD locations where drug use was most prevalent. “If these drugs, like heroin, ice, meth, cocaine, ecstasy and fentanyl are health-destroying, life-wrecking scourges that we know they are, then we should be doing everything we can to stamp them out,” Ms Credlin said. “No ifs, no buts, the message should be that illegal drugs destroy lives and should never be used. “And those that do should be subject to heavy penalties, dealers should be locked up for long-term sentences, and the criminal gangs and the bikies behind the drug trade should be ruthlessly crushed.”

There are fears an isolationist leader such as Donald Trump could compromise the security pact part of AUKUS that focuses on advanced technology, according to Sky News Political Correspondent Olivia Caisley. It comes as AUKUS leaders have said they are willing to cooperate with Japan on Pillar Two. “The Prime Minister this morning making it very clear that that Pillar One to do with nuclear submarines will remain the issue to the original AUKUS partners,” Ms Caisley said. “But then, when it comes to Pillar Two, we could see other like-minded countries join in. “In many ways, there is a bit of a sense of urgency to lock down these Pillar Two partners before there are elections in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States over the next 12 months. “There are certainly fears that if a more isolationist leader such as Donald Trump is elected, that could actually compromise Pillar Two.”

The New Zealand government is moving quickly to tighten migration rules for low-skilled workers. Annual net migration hit a near-record high last year after more than 170,000 migrants moved to New Zealand. The government says these numbers are unsustainable, and too much pressure is being put on infrastructure. Some of the changes to the visa program for low-skilled workers include English language requirements and a reduction in the visa duration from five years to three. For Australians, the rules surrounding visas remain unchanged.

Former US President Donald Trump has asserted US states should determine abortion laws on Monday. Trump made his statement in a video posted to Truth Social, avoiding a call to ban abortions across the US. “My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land,” said Trump. “Many states will be different, at the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people.” According to Reuters, the former president’s decision not to give a conclusive answer could prevent him from losing swing voters ahead of the presidential election. During his speech, Trump also outlined abortion exemptions for rape, incest and to protect the mother’s life. A Reuters/Ipsos poll from March found 57 per cent of Americans, in most cases, believe abortion should be legal.

US congressman Gerry Connolly during an interview on MSNBC said he thinks it’s “only fitting” to name a federal prison after former US president Donald Trump. Mr Connolly's remarks come after Republicans pushed earlier in the week to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after Donald Trump. Mr Connolly was one of three Democrats to introduce the two-page bill that would rename the Miami Federal Correctional Institution in Florida. “I think it’s only fitting that if Republicans really want to honour Donald Trump, the most appropriate way to do that is to name a federal prison,” Mr Connolly said. “He might be visiting soon, after Donald J. Trump,” he said.

The View co-host Sunny Hostin has claimed the solar eclipse, an earthquake, and incoming cicadas are signs of climate change. During Monday’s episode, Hostin made the embarrassing claims but was quickly called out by her co-hosts. Hostin stated the earthquake in New York last week, the solar eclipse and the impending cicada event could mean “the Rapture is here”. “Let’s say, all those things together would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists, or something is really going on,” Hostin said. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg quickly corrected Hostin, explaining the cicada event happens “every 17 years”. Co-host Joy Behar also quickly educated Hostin on her claims about earthquakes. “Earthquakes are not at the mercy of climate change. It’s underground,” she said.
