Radio 2CC host Stephen Cenatiempo says the move by the federal Liberal Party regarding the NSW branch doesn’t have “long-term” prospects. The federal Liberals have staged a takeover of the NSW branch of the party, sacking the state executive and replacing them with three politicians to run the branch. “The NSW Liberal Party has always been driven by factionalism,” Mr Cenatiempo told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “Whilst I applaud this … I don’t have any long-term hope for any real change. “As soon as the federal intervention is over in 10 months’ time, the factional warlords are still there and they go back to their positions of power.”

Sky News host Chris Kenny has reacted to US Vice President Kamala Harris’ use of a “ridiculous” phrase again at a rally in Pennsylvania. “I kind of love this and I loathe it, and that is my favourite phrase, this ridiculous line that Kamala’s gone on about for forever in an embarrassing way,” Mr Kenny said. “Well, she resorted to that again ... we’re still unburdened by what has been. “It is just nonsense, it is piffle, it is word salads.” This comes after the Vice President used the phrase “unburdened by what has been” at a rally in Pittsburgh.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has shown his support for the Labor Party’s industrial relations reforms despite pushback from the Coalition. “What we are seeing is that for the number of people employed now, we have added some 900,080 plus jobs,” said Mr Albanese. “They [the Coalition] are always prepared to have a scare campaign. “What Labor governments do is understand that working people need proper wages and conditions but we also understand this, that employees have an interest in constructive and positive relationships with employers. “That’s why we support enterprise bargaining because they have a common interest.”

ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess does an “outstanding job” protecting Australia’s national security, says Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson. “I strongly support Mike Burgess,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia. “I support his entire team, I support ASIO; it’s a wonderful organisation that does very important work in the national interest and for our national security. “It’s not in our country’s interest for them to be politicised, and that’s why I’m very disappointed that the Prime Minister tried to use Mike Burgess as a political shield.”

The Coalition is expected to base its campaign headquarters out of Sydney at the next federal election, Sky News NSW Political Reporter Julia Bradley reports. Party sources have told Sky News the decision was made some time ago. For the past two federal elections, Coalition campaign headquarters (CHQ), the nerve centre behind the party’s campaign, was based in Brisbane. Sky News understands the party has secured space for its CHQ in Greater Sydney. The joint Liberal and National headquarters are normally frequented by party heavyweights. The Labor Party based its CHQ out of Sydney’s CBD in 2022 and out of Parramatta in Western Sydney in 2019. The decision illustrates how crucial the Coalition believes the state of New South Wales will be to its election prospects. The party will fight to win back marginal seats such as Gilmore, Bennelong and Roberston from Labor as well as seats such as Mackellar and Wentworth from Teal independents. One source told Sky News the move “ups the stakes a bit” and that it is a “pretty logical decision”. Sky News understands the Coalition’s decision to shift its CHQ to Sydney pre-dates the New South Wales council nominations bungle, which saw the Liberal Party’s state executive fail to lodge nominations for 140 candidates for the upcoming local government elections. Former Liberal Party Federal Director Brian Loughnane has been tasked with conducting a review of the state branch, examining what caused the nominations issue as well as the preparedness of the New South Wales division going into the next federal election. Some party figures are calling for the federal executive to intervene to run the New South Wales branch. The report will be considered in a meeting of the federal executive at 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson says he is “not surprised” ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess has moved to clarify his position on Gaza refugees entering Australia. “Those are the views I assumed Mike Burgess held,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia. “I’ve probably done 25 media interviews on this issue and not in a single one of them have I ever criticised Mike Burgess or ASIO because I didn’t think that he thought it was a good idea to bring Hamas supporters into our country. “My criticism and the Opposition’s criticism has always been focused on the government and frankly that criticism is even more acute today.”

US Vice President Kamala Harris was roasted online after being caught using a new accent during a campaign rally. The former prosecutor stopped by Detroit, Michigan on Monday to deliver a speech and snap up any blue-collar union worker votes. Michigan is considered a critical battleground state for the Democratic presidential nominee ahead of the November election. During her speech, Harris was caught using a Detroit accent and was subsequently roasted for it by users on social media. “This is her seventh new accent in four weeks. She has literally never used this accent before. She grew up in Canada. Phoniest politician in all of politics,” one user wrote.

There would be a partial ban on TV gambling advertising within two years and an almost immediate ban on online gambling ads under the federal government gambling reforms soon to hit Cabinet, Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell reports. Sky News can reveal that due to contractual arrangements, a TV ban would have to wait almost two years to come into effect, but restrictions could be placed in federal legislation on bookmakers sooner, preventing them from putting ads on social media sites and online. A blanket advertising ban, which was what a parliamentary committee led by the late Labor MP Peta Murphy recommended, is not being considered, Sky News understands, but the ban which will be introduced is being aimed at three areas of concern: the current saturation of gambling ads, the amount of exposure of children to gambling ads and the issue of gambling advertising during sporting matches. The advertising aspect – which Communications Minister Michelle Rowland has been consulting the industry about - is part of a suite of reforms set to be approved by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Many of the recommendations of the parliamentary committee report are being handled by Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth.

Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney discusses the likelihood of a Trump-Harris debate happening. "Everybody assumes it's going to happen, but keep in mind Donald Trump, he says he has agreed to the rules that the television network has laid out," Mr Mulvaney said. "The Harris team has not committed to that yet there is fighting still over whether the microphones will be turned off when it is no longer the candidate's time to speak. "The Harris team is now saying they want the microphones on all the time because they think it makes Donald Trump look bad."
