A world-first trial for a drug that researchers hope could not only slow down the progression but actually reverse the condition of motor neurone disease is currently in phase two of clinical trials. If successful, American company Spinogenix drug SPG302 would be the first regenerative treatment for the devastating and rapid neurodegenerative disease. Spinogenix founder Dr Stella Sarraf joined Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood to discuss the ongoing groundbreaking trial. "SPG302 is developed as a pill and we aim to restore function by working and treating the synapses or connections in the brain that are fundamental and ground zero for many of these conditions," Ms Sarraf said. "It provides hope to restore function and also provides a means to give function back to the patients and so this is something that's very unique and different than other approaches that just seem to just halt the disease and symptom management. "We're very excited about where we're headed and the possibilities are potentially endless."

Pfizer’s Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Anne Harris claims Australia’s current healthcare system is currently “not fit for purpose”. "It's not fit for purpose and it clearly points to a system that has been working effectively to a level for over 30 years," Ms Harris said. "We have had the same system in place for how we evaluate and bring medicines to the public through the PBS. "The time is now to look at the review and the recommendations and make changes to ensure that Australians now and into the future have the opportunity to have the innovation that is going to make a difference to their lives."

Environmentalist and photographer Steven Nowakowski has called out the hypocrisy of wind farms. The former Greens candidate and co-founder of Rainforest Reserves Australia, Mr Nowakowski has led campaigns against the wind farm for three years. The avid environmentalist discussed the hypocrisy of destroying natural landscapes in order to save them with Sky News host James Morrow, Rita Panahi and Rowan Dean. “This is not climate action, but this is actually biodiversity vandalism,” Mr Nowakowski said. “Nuclear is the no-brainer. “It's the silver bullet that we require and I firmly believe that by simply swapping out retiring coal plants with nuclear for like for like that's the cheapest, the easiest solution and we can meet our targets that way and it has the least impact on biodiversity.”

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie has criticised the Albanese government for its spending which has “made the economy halt” and means inflation is going to “stay higher” for longer. Treasurer Jim Chalmers has maintained Labor’s $300 energy bill subsidies are not inflationary despite the Reserve Bank claiming otherwise. “What I think we’re seeing is the RBA versus the Treasury versus Jim Chalmers and, the RBA, I don’t believe, won’t be influenced by the Labor Party or the Treasurer’s pleading or begging or false economics,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News Australia. “The reality is – Michele Bullock couldn’t have been clearer – state and federal Labor governments’ spending has made the economy halt. “That means inflation is going stay higher than it needs to be for longer.”

Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Murray Watt has claimed recent commentary over "political commitments" made between the Albanese government and its AUKUS partners have been “a little bit overblown”. “The commitments that have been made are those that are in the agreement and in the Treaty which are publicly available,” Mr Murray said. “So really all that happened over the course of the week was that the agreement was signed to formally confirm the arrangements that had already been agreed between our country, the US and the UK, which is about technology sharing, information sharing. “So, I think some of the commentary about secrets and a political commitment is a little bit overblown.”
