Former US president Donald Trump has linked the global market sell-off and Wall Street’s downturn to Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Mr Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on Monday to dub the stock plunge the “Kamala Crash”. US stocks plunged on Monday as last week’s weaker-than-expected US employment data fuelled recession fears. CNN Business Journalist Richard Quest joined Sky News Australia to discuss how spooked Ms Harris and the Democratic Party are over the markets plummeting and talk about a recession.

Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy says there is “enormous pressure” on the Albanese government as Australia is in a “per capita recession”. The global share market collapse over recession fears could shift the Reserve Bank’s rate cut trajectory. The ASX fell by 5.8 per cent in the past two trading sessions – the biggest fall since the early stages of the pandemic in March 2020. “Unfortunately, now, we could see some negative GDP across two quarters – the definition of a recession,” Mr Conroy told Sky News Australia. “We all know we’ve been in a per capita recession. “All of that will put enormous pressure on the Albanese government.”

Sky News host Caleb Bond has reacted to former House speaker Nancy Pelosi’s suggestion for US President Joe Biden to be added to Mount Rushmore. “It’s just amazing, isn’t it – like the dude has barely lasted his four-year term, he’s not allowed to run again because his brain is totally gone, and this is the guy that Nancy Pelosi reckons should be added to Mount Rushmore,” he said. “He’s done nothing to deserve it.”

Sky News host Liz Storer discusses the latest polls to come out of the US, showing both candidates as "neck and neck". “The polls would have you believe that she (Kamala Harris) is neck and neck with Trump, believe it or not,” Ms Storer said. “Now the Trump campaign has come out and called this a furphy.”

Sky News host Sharri Markson says the decision to raise Australia's terror threat should have been made “months ago”. ASIO has announced it has raised the national terror threat from ‘possible’ to ‘probable’. “Albanese tried to shift the blame for this, saying it was a global trend while insisting social cohesion in Australia is something he wants to protect,” Ms Markson said. “Yet his own government has done the precise opposite, importing more hatred from the frontline of Gaza while fuelling violence with their anti-Israel rhetoric. “Albanese needs to take a hard look at his own overarching strategy because today he claimed to care about the safety of Australians. “But if that were the case - if he was genuinely worried about our safety, then how could he possibly bring to our safe country people who could be affiliated with Hamas, who could pose a threat to our national security.”

Sky News host Paul Murray discusses US Vice President Kamala Harris taking the lead in the polls for the presidential election. “The data is out there, we have hit the tipping point where Harris is now leading, the assumption is that she is in that position now because the key state of Pennsylvania has now started to flip,” Mr Murray said. “My suggestion, talk, about the damn issues where he (Donald Trump) is 20 points in front, inflation and immigration, instead, she is cruising.”

Sky News host James Macpherson discusses a plea deal taken by the mastermind of the September 11 attacks, sparing him the death penalty for life in prison. “If you are a relative of someone killed on September 11, you would be absolutely outraged that your government has taken 23 years and still hasn’t executed justice,” Mr Macpherson said. “When they do, it is sloppy justice that reflects moral clarity is sadly lacking in the United States.”

Sky News host Caleb Bond says Vice President Kamala Harris has done a full pivot on her racial identity as she rarely talks about her Indian heritage anymore. “She’s done this sort of full pivot from the Indian bit to the black bit,” Mr Bond said. “Because she’s decided that being black is more electorally advantageous to trumpet that around.”

Shadow Housing Minister Michael Sukkar says Labor must build a new home “every 2.4 minutes” to house and accommodate the migrants coming into the country. “In two short years of this government we have had more than a million migrants come to this country, so we are running a world record gold level of migration in this country,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News host Sharri Markson. “Yet we are building fewer homes … it means we need to build a new home every 2.4 minutes just to house and accommodate the new migrants Labor is bringing into this country.”

Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger slams Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, saying he "directly" blames him for the rise in antisemitism in Australia after a Jewish man was denied service at an Officeworks. "That made me sick today when I saw that video, that is sickening," Mr Kroger told Sky News host Paul Murray. "I directly blame Albanese, he has been a hopeless, weak, pathetic leader on antisemitism. "The rise of antisemitism in this country is a reflection of the fact the Prime Minister has been hopelessly weak. "He has been aided and abetted by Penny Wong's appealing behaviour towards Israel."

Journalist and commentator Brad Polumbo discusses former US president Donald Trump hitting out at Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity during the National Association of Black Journalists convention. Mr Trump claimed she ‘became a black person’ to get ahead in politics. “I do give him some credit for honestly going there,” Mr Polumbo told Sky News host Gabriella Power. “Because he was very much going into the lion’s den. “She can be both [biracial]. It may be true that she’s emphasised the Indian side of her identity more, but Trump almost seems to be suggesting that … she’s pretending to be an ethnicity she’s not.”
