Singapore's competition and consumer watchdog is clamping down on firms publishing fake reviews. It ordered Loft Home, a furniture retailer, to remove existing fake reviews and to stop producing them, in the first such case of its kind. CNA speaks to Ng Ming Jie, Director of the Consumer Protection Division at the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore. He says consumers rely on reviews to make informed decisions about purchases and therefore it is important to ensure that action be taken against firms who try to put up fake reviews.

Singapore's oil spill has reached Johor. The Malaysian state began a clean-up effort on Jun 21, a week after a maritime crash off Singapore's southern waters discharged 400 tonnes of oil into the ocean. Singapore authorities say they have been informed and relevant information is being shared with Malaysia to help with efforts. Singapore also earlier alerted Malaysia that the oil slick could potentially reach its waters. CNA spoke to Liu Nengye, Associate Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University, for his analysis on what the compensation process will entail for different parties.

Students are protesting in India after a reputed national entrance exam was scrapped just a day after 900,000 candidates sat for it. The UGC-NET exam is mandatory for admissions into PhD programs, and for securing jobs in teaching roles in government-funded universities. The education minister says the decision was taken after it became clear that the paper had been leaked.
