On Monday (Jun 10), the UN Security Council passed a United States resolution welcoming a ceasefire proposal announced by President Joe Biden that the US says Israel has accepted. Hamas welcomed the resolution, saying it is ready to cooperate with mediators over implementing the principles of the plan. The resolution is a "good step" in general, said Dr Mohammed Abu-Nimer, professor at the American University School of International Service in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. Researchers in Singapore have found that worsening air pollution as a result of climate change could be linked to a jump in premature deaths in Asia. The main culprit is PM2.5 particles, which are about 30 times smaller than an average strand of hair. Vehicle emissions and industrial processes can intensify the concentration of PM2.5. Two of the study's authors, Associate Professor Steve Yim and Professor Joseph Sung from the Nanyang Technological University, shared more about their observations after analysing data from 1980 to 2020.

A group of Singapore skin doctors and scientists are on a mission to cut down cases of severe eczema by a third in three years' time. They are part of a project that has received a $10-million grant to look into the causes of the condition and the kinds of therapies or diagnostic tools that work best. The last of 10 people to be sentenced in Singapore's $3-billion money laundering case has been handed the heaviest jail term of 17 months. The assets seized from Vanuatu national Su Jianfeng, 36, was also the highest among the nine men and one woman arrested. The police seized about $187 million worth of assets from Su, his wife and their companies. About 95% of that has been ordered to be forfeited to the state. Jeraldine Yap reports.
