With just days to go until voters go to the polls in the European Union election, parties from across the continent are holding their final rallies to court undecided voters. Polls show that populist far-right parties are expected to perform particularly strongly, buoyed by growing share of the vote among young people - with social media playing a key role reaching first time voters. Many traditional parties are now racing to reach voters using TikTok, as CNA's Trent Murray reports from Berlin.

Dubai-based Emirates is trying to recover and learn from the record storm that brought much of the country to a standstill in April, said the airline’s deputy president Adnan Kazim. Dubai International Airport was waterlogged following the storm, which saw a year's rainfall in a day. Google's fourth data centre in Singapore officially opened its doors today (3 June). The new facility helps power Google's digital services, such as Google Maps. This brings Google's total investments in infrastructure in Singapore to US$5 billion -- more than five times the amount in 2018. The facility also comes with sustainable features. Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Janil Puthucheary said, as interest grows in areas like AI and advanced technologies, greener data centres will be needed.

The Health Ministry has rejected what it calls "egregious and false claims" by the People's Power Party, which is seeking to halt COVID-19 vaccinations in Singapore. In a social media post signed off by its secretary general Goh Meng Seng, the PPP claimed that vaccines have caused high incidences of severe side effects. The post also tried to link high vaccination rates with excess deaths. Rebutting the claims, the Health Ministry said there's a need to draw the right conclusions and follow scientific evidence on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines. It added that, while there are side effects to any vaccination, scientific evidence overwhelmingly shows that protection from vaccines outweighs the side effects.
India's election commission said a total of 642 million voters cast their ballots in the six-week long polls that ended on Saturday. The seven-phase election began on 19 April, and was held during a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures soaring past 50°C in some parts of the country. India is preparing to tally the votes tomorrow. Exit polls have pointed to a landslide victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is projected to win more seats than what it secured in the previous election. Artificial intelligence darling Nvidia is speeding up its product turnaround, highlighting the stiff competition in the AI chip market. Its CEO Jensen Huang said the US chipmaker plans to release a new family of AI chips every year, faster than its previous two-year timeline. South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged leaders of political parties to work together in the public interest after his party, the African National Congress (ANC), lost its 30-year governing majority in the general election. The final tally gave the ANC159 seats in the 400-member National Assembly. This means the parties will now need to form a coalition government. The new parliament is to meet within two weeks and its first task will be to elect a new president. Isaac Lukando has more.
About 373 million Europeans will head to the polls for the European Union election from Jun 6 to 9. People across the European Union’s 27 member states will vote to decide who serves in the EU Parliament for the next five years.
