This year’s National Day Parade will feature a warfighting demonstration, held between the Padang and Marina Bay, as Singapore commemorates 40 years of Total Defence. Spectators can expect a 360-immersive experience with enhanced multimedia and fireworks effects. Festivities will spread over two days, including five sites in the heartlands the next day.
Up to 20,000 new homes will be built at the current Bukit Timah Turf City over the next two to three decades. The plans include private homes, as well as public housing, the first time such flats will be built in the area in almost 40 years. Singapore and Kazakhstan have welcomed the signing of six deals, in areas including economic cooperation, higher education and protection of intellectual property rights. The pacts were inked during the three-day state visit by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Singapore Airlines (SIA) says it has taken "a more cautious approach" to managing turbulence during a flight. Not only will hot beverage services be stopped, it will also suspend meal service. Crew members must now buckle up when the seatbelt sign is on. SIA says it will continue to tell passengers to do the same during turbulence. The airline adds that it will continue to review processes.
Singapore has maintained its gross domestic product growth forecast for the year at a range of one to three per cent as its economy grew by 2.7 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, the fastest pace in 18 months. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the need for Asia to engage with China and called on ASEAN to take a common position to resolve regional issues. Ireland, Spain and Norway said earlier this week that they would recognise a Palestinian state, which does not exist in practice. This prompted United States President Joe Biden to reiterate his belief that a Palestinian state should be achieved through negotiations, not unilateral recognition.
