Taiwan is still feeling aftershocks after last week's deadly earthquake, with one rocking Taipei today, causing buildings to shake. Rescue efforts are continuing in disaster-hit Hualien county, six days since the quake struck. Six people remain missing, among them a mother and her two young children, as well as a Singaporean couple. Three family members of the missing couple have arrived in Hualien. Heavy machinery have been deployed to clear roads in order to expedite the search. Victoria Jen reports.
Conflicting reports emerging over the new round of Gaza truce talks in Cairo. A Hamas official said negotiations remain deadlocked, despite Egyptian reports saying otherwise. Israel's foreign minister has described the talks as the closest both sides have come to a deal since November's truce, which saw Hamas freeing dozens of hostages. On the ground, concerns are growing about the fate of Gaza's southern city of Rafah. According to media reports, Israel is preparing to evacuate the city within a week. Myopia, or nearsightedness, is on the rise among young Singaporeans. Up to 20 per cent of children now have high myopia - defined as more than 500 degrees in each eye - compared to just around 10 per cent a decade ago. There are, however, ways to slow its progression.
Taiwan rescuers said they have narrowed the search parameter for the two Singaporeans who are missing, following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake on Apr 3. Sim Hwee Kok and Neo Siew Choo was last seen alighting from a bus at Hualien’s Taroko National Park, about 40 minutes before the quake struck.
