As polls closed across the United States, hundreds of overseas Americans in Singapore gathered for the outcome of this year's presidential election contest. The event brought together community and business leaders, all committed to unity, no matter the outcome. It was one of several such events across the city, where 30,000 Americans live and work. Aslam Shah was there to capture the sentiments.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong says the country stands ready to work closely with US President-elect Donald Trump, in advancing bilateral ties and US' partnerships in the Asia Pacific. Other leaders have also been offering Mr Trump their congratulations. Meanwhile, for South Korea - a close security ally of the US in the Indo-Pacific - a Trump administration adds an element of unpredictability. It could signal a change in US security commitments and Washington's policy on Pyongyang.

India produces 9.3 million tonnes of plastic waste every year. This is almost equivalent to the combined volume of what Nigeria, China and Indonesia - the next three biggest plastic polluters - generate. Nearly half of this waste is made up of single-use plastics like water bottles, sachets, packaging and disposable cutlery. A 34-year-old football player was killed by lightning during a match in the Peruvian Andes on Sunday (Nov 3). The local tournament was halted when lightning first struck, but a second bolt hit players as they began leaving the field.

Republican candidate Donald Trump may have an advantage in Pennsylvania, with about 89 per cent of the ballots counted, says Patrick Basham, founding director of DC-based think tank Democracy Institute. At the moment, he is slightly ahead at 51 per cent and Democratic rival Kamala Harris is lagging behind at 48 per cent.
