Charities will receive more help to beef up their capabilities against money laundering and terrorism financing. The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants is offering them subsidised screening services to do so. Many charities had asked for more guidance and support in screening donations. A panel of professionals will help check donors against watch lists. Associate Professor Razwana Begum, head of the public safety and security programme at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, shared more about charity governance and how the measures will help with due diligence.
Those in the community care sector can now pursue a new career track that will broaden their job scope to better serve the needs of Singapore's ageing population. This, after a successful pilot by the Health Ministry and Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). Over 500 comcare staff will have new redesigned roles. The pilot that started in 2021 found that these new roles drove up productivity, with staff taking up higher skilled tasks and having more avenues to advance their own careers. The training is now accredited under the national Skills Framework for Healthcare. Rachel Teng reports.
Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said the authorities will thoroughly investigate the East-West Line train disruption and identify areas for improvement. Lasting six days, it turned out to be the longest unplanned disruption on a major train line in Singapore, affecting over two million commuters. The Land Transport Authority said investigations should complete in a few months, and findings will be released to the public. The LTA will also appoint an expert advisory panel to review the findings and advise on technical matters.

Tensions in the Middle East have fuelled fears of a wider war. Israel has vowed to make Iran "pay" for its second firing of missiles into its territory this year. China has urged world leaders to play a constructive role and stop further deterioration of the situation in the Middle East. The US said it was discussing a joint response, and that it would work with Israel to ensure Iran faced "severe consequences". Iran has warned the US not to get involved. The Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) is aiming to redefine what it means to age as Singapore is set to become "super-aged" in two years. That is when more than a fifth of its population will be aged 65 and above. The AIC's photo exhibition is challenging traditional perceptions of ageing.
