AUKUS defence ministers -- Australia's Richard Marles, the UK's John Healey and their US counterpart Lloyd Austin -- are holding their first trilateral meeting outside of the US. The trio have gathered in London. The UK and Australia have announced plans to work towards a first-of-its kind defence treaty. Under the AUKUS agreement signed in 2021, the US and UK agreed to provide Australia with nuclear-powered submarines and help it ramp up its defence capabilities against growing security threats in the Indo-Pacific. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed his military to keep on fighting with "full force", amid growing worries of a ground invasion of Lebanon. He also dismissed reports of a possible ceasefire with Hezbollah, after the US and its allies called for a 21-day ceasefire along the Israel-Lebanon border. As China marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic, a massive plan to connect 11 southern cities with a combined GDP larger than South Korea also turns five this year. The Greater Bay Area comprises cities in Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau. Voting in the second phase of regional elections in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir has concluded. Foreign diplomats from 15 countries -- including Singapore, the Philippines and the US -- witnessed voters casting their ballots in the first local election the region has seen in decades. President Vladimir Putin has lowered Russia's nuclear response threshold and warned the West that an attack by Ukraine with the backing of a nuclear-armed nation would be considered a joint attack. This comes ahead of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy's meeting with US President Joe Biden, where he's expected to push for permission to use Western-supplied long-range weapons to strike deep inside Russia. "We are doing our very best to recover train services," said SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai on Thursday (Sep 26).
