Pope Francis arrived in Singapore on Sep 11, for the fourth and final stop of his visit to the region. On the first day of his visit, he will head to the Jurassic Mile along Airport Boulevard, as well as have a private meeting with members of the Society of Jesus at the St Francis Xavier Retreat Centre in Punggol.

Team Singapore Paralympians received a warm reception at Changi Airport this morning, after returning from Paris. Yip Pin Xiu won two golds in swimming while Jeralyn Tan took home a historic silver in boccia. The athletes were greeted by a spectacular water cannon salute shortly after their plane touched down. The celebration for Team Singapore Paralympians continues this Saturday. Supporters can catch them along Orchard Road, Chinatown, Victoria Street and Serangoon Road, as they parade through the heart of Singapore on an open-top bus. Richa Mathew reports.
Manpower Minister Tan See Leng said tripartism in Singapore is a very unique yet true partnership, citing how workers' rights are met without the need for strikes. A community group has urged the government to set up a national office dedicated to suicide prevention in Singapore. A white paper has been launched in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day. Other recommendations include suicide data monitoring and evaluation, more training on prevention, and the use of tech-based interventions. A research by Project Hayat found over 80% felt that suicide prevention is of national importance. However, less than a quarter said Singapore is doing enough to prevent suicide, while just over half knew how to access support services. CNA spoke to Project Hayat principal researcher and co-lead Dr Rayner Tan, who is also a visiting research fellow at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS, and Mr Reshii Varma, a project participant and suicide survivor.
An estimated 50,000 people are expected to attend the papal mass in Singapore on Thursday. Security for the event is expected to be tight. Thousands of volunteers have spent months preparing for the occasion. On Thursday, Pope Francis will receive a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House. He will call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and the two will deliver speeches at a State Address. The Education Ministry has taken legal action against the contractors of Mobile Guardian, following two cybersecurity breaches that affected over 100,000 students, staff and parents. Meanwhile, the exams board said 52 O-Level Art candidates who lost parts of their coursework can apply for special consideration. MOE has terminated its contract with Mobile Guardian and is considering other options, including rolling out a new device management app by the next school year. Mobile Guardian was used to limit screen time and block access to undesirable content on personal learning devices.
Senior Minister of State for Manpower Koh Poh Koon said the government can audit platform operators to ensure higher costs of compliance are not passed down to customers. This, after a new law was passed for them to pay CPF contributions to platform workers. MPs repeated calls for the government to ensure consumers and workers do not ultimately pay the price. 26 MPs rose to speak during the debate, which lasted more than eight hours. Dr Koh was also in the studio to speak to CNA about the Platform Workers Bill. Nasyrah Rohim reports.
The death toll from Typhoon Yagi continues to climb, days after the storm hit northern Vietnam. At least 127 people have been killed and more than 50 others are missing. The storm also triggered the collapse of a 30-year-old steel bridge, sending several vehicles plunging into the waters below. Authorities have banned or limited traffic on other bridges across the river, including in the capital. CNA's Tung Ngo reports from Hanoi.
At least 40 people have been killed and 60 others injured, after Israeli missiles set ablaze a camp for displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza. Witnesses said at least four missiles struck the encampment in the Al-Mawasi area. This is one of the deadliest strikes yet in the Al-Mawasi area -- designated by Israel as a humanitarian zone -- which provides shelter for hundreds of thousands of civilians. Israel has disputed the death toll, claiming the strike targeted a Hamas command centre operating within the humanitarian area. Sarah Coates reports from Tel Aviv.

Australia plans to set a minimum age limit for children to use social media, citing concerns about mental and physical health.
