Singapore's para-athletes will soon get dedicated training facilities and full sports science support, among others. This, as the country works to put them on equal footing with abled athletes. Culture, Community and Youth Minister Edwin Tong said para-athletes will have a space to call their own at the new Home of Team Singapore in Kallang. He was speaking to CNA's Sabrina Ng in an exclusive interview at the Paralympic Games in Paris. With two gold medals from swimming and the silver medal in boccia, this Games has been Team Singapore's best showing at a Paralympics to date.

Floods and landslides have killed at least 11 people in the Philippines, after a fierce tropical storm dumped heavy rain on the country for a second day. Tropical Storm Yagi made landfall in northeastern Aurora province, some seven hours or over 350km away from capital Manila. Thousands of Filipinos in at least four regions also took temporary shelter in evacuation centres. The Philippines is Southeast Asia's most typhoon-prone country, hit with an average of 20 typhoons each year. Buena Bernal reports.

A study has shown that the longer an ex-offender remains employed, the less likely he or she will return to crime. For the 2020 release cohort, almost 20% reoffended and they were not employed continuously for at least six months. For those who were working for 18 months, the recidivism rate fell to 7%. CNA spoke to Jimmy Ler, country director of Logwin Air and Ocean Singapore, and Abdul Rahim, an ex-offender who is now a logistics manager. The firm is one of 6,500 registered with Yellow Ribbon Singapore to provide jobs for ex-offenders.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said Singapore will do whatever it can to support the UN's mission and secretary-general António Guterres' leadership. Mr Wong added that Singapore will offer ideas, build bridges and broker solutions. Pope Francis is set to embark on his longest trip since becoming head of the Catholic church in 2013. The 87-year-old leaves Rome tonight and will visit four Asia-Pacific countries -- Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Singapore -- over the next 11 days.
