Workers with a previous monthly salary averaging S$5,000 or less will be eligible for financial aid if they are involuntarily unemployed. When the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme starts next April, it is expected to help about 60,000 workers each year. The Government will set aside S$200 million annually for this programme. China's pet market is showing promising growth supported by demographic changes and attitude shifts towards having children, even as the country’s economy slows. A new study by Nanyang Technological University has found that dengue patients have a higher risk of long-term health complications -- such as heart diseases and memory disorders -- compared to those who contract COVID-19. Professor Ooi Eng Eong, an infectious diseases expert from the Duke-NUS Medical School, shared more about managing dengue in Singapore.
According to a survey of 3,000 Singaporeans and permanent residents aged 18 to 65, more than four in 10 people said they may never be able to achieve financial freedom. In this year's Singlife Financial Freedom Index, respondents believed they need around $612,000 to be financially free -- 8% more than last year's figure -- and it would take them 30 years to accumulate that amount. Meanwhile, four in five surveyed said they aim to retire by 65, with most saying they need more than $2,800 a month to live comfortably. Dr Aurobindo Ghosh, director of the SMU Financial Literacy, Inclusion and Technology Programme, discussed the findings.
Airport service company SATS is the first in the aviation and aerospace sector to partner NTUC to train its staff to do higher-skilled jobs. The aim is to enhance career development for about 500 Singaporeans within the passenger services, cargo and apron businesses. At the inaugural aerospace and aviation symposium, the labour movement urged companies to upskill workers and streamline processes. Changi Airport Terminal 5 is set to be operational in the mid-2030s, while passenger numbers across Asia are projected to double by 2040. Charlotte Lim reports.
