The massive IT glitch that crashed computer systems around the world, shutting down computers and networks in airports, hospitals and businesses, was caused by a software update by US cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. It says a defect was found in a single content update for Windows computers and it has deployed a fix for the issue. Associate Professor Goh Weihan from the Information Cluster at the Singapore Institute of Technology tells CNA's Syahida Othman how the fault happened and says that recovery will take some time.

In his first speech since the assassination attempt last weekend, US Republican Party presidential nominee Donald Trump adopted a tone of unity before shifting to well-worn attacks on the Biden administration.
