A report has found that over nine in 10 Singaporean firms are eyeing opportunities in the proposed Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. The Singapore Business Federation's findings involved 160 companies; half are already operating in Johor. While many say the time is ripe to leverage the southern state's favourable operating costs and land availability, and Singapore's talent expertise and connectivity, challenges remain. Technology firm NCS has rolled out a system that assesses how ready organisations are to take up AI securely and provides them solutions to do so. Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat says these will give public and private organisations the confidence to adopt AI. Those celebrating Singapore's National Day this year at Marina Bay will catch an up-close and longer view of the Presidential Gun Salute sail-past. The crowd favourite will also be making its furthest sail-past in history. The 21-gun salute is the highest military honour reserved only for the president. Another first for the 2024 National Day Parade at the Padang is an Onward March. 16 parade contingents will march through the spectator stands, creating an immersive 360° experience. Paris-bound Singapore swimmer Gan Ching Hwee said she has blocked off all the distractions over her last-minute addition to the women's 4x100m medley relay team. The 20-year-old said her coaches have been helping her stay focused, ahead of her Olympics debut in two weeks. Gan replaced Quah Ting Wen in the quartet last week, after accepting an invitation from World Aquatics to compete at the Summer Games. Gan will compete in three events in Paris: The women's 800m and 1,500m freestyle, as well as the 4x100m medley relay. Alif Amsyar reports.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Health Ministry is allowing the mural of a samsui woman holding a cigarette to stay as it is, without modifications. But the URA has slapped a $2,000 fine on the owner of the South Bridge Road property for carrying out unauthorised works on a conserved building. The authorities said they decided to retain the mural by Singapore-based American artist Sean Dunston because the work is largely seen as an art piece, and not as an advertisement for tobacco.
