L'observatoire national de Chine a renouvelé une alerte orange, la deuxième plus élevée de son système d'alerte météorologique à quatre niveaux, pour des vagues de froid dans diverses régions.  De lundi à jeudi, les températures dans la plupart des régions du centre et de l'est de la Chine chuteront de manière significative, de 8 à 12 degrés en moyenne. Le Centre météorologique national indique que certaines régions du sud de la Chine devraient également connaître de fortes baisses de température. Les gouvernements locaux se sont vus recommandés d'élaborer des plans d'urgence et de prendre des mesures de précaution contre le gel et les conditions de congélation. Le ministre chinois des Affaires étrangères, Wang Yi, a déclaré que la Chine souhaitait maintenir des échanges de haut niveau avec l'Espagne et promouvoir les relations entre les deux pays à un nouveau niveau.  Wang Yi a fait ces remarques lors de sa rencontre avec le Premier ministre espagnol, Pedro Sanchez, à Madrid, le lundi 19 février. Notant que l'année dernière avait marqué le 50e anniversaire des relations diplomatiques, Wang Yi a déclaré que la Chine travaillerait avec l'Espagne pour améliorer les relations au cours des 50 prochaines années sur la base de la confiance mutuelle, du respect mutuel et de la coopération gagnant-gagnant. Le ministre des Affaires étrangères a en outre souligné le rôle important de l'Union européenne, affirmant que la Chine soutenait le développement et la croissance du bloc. Pedro Sanchez a déclaré que l'Espagne attachait une grande importance à son partenariat stratégique global et qu'elle était prête à travailler avec la Chine pour explorer le potentiel de coopération. La 14e Assemblée populaire nationale (APN), organe législatif suprême de la Chine, débutera sa deuxième session annuelle à Beijing le 5 mars.
