Le temps glacial a laissé de nombreuses lignes électriques couvertes de glace, perturbant l'usage de l'électricité par les résidents, ce qui a incité les autorités concernées à intervenir. Dans le district de Jiangxia, à Wuhan, des troncs d'arbres tombés ont endommagé des lignes électriques, privant de nombreux habitants d'électricité. Grâce au travail des ouvriers mobilisés par les services locaux d'électricité, l'alimentation électrique de la zone a été rétablie à 97 % au bout de 70 heures. Dans la province du Hunan, 77 districts ont été confrontés à des températures très basses et à des conditions de gel, laissant de nombreux conducteurs bloqués dans leurs véhicules sur l'autoroute.
