Le Fonds monétaire international (FMI) a rehaussé à 3,1 % ses prévisions pour la croissance mondiale en 2024, soit 0,2 point de pourcentage au-dessus de ses projections de fin octobre dernier, selon la nouvelle mise à jour des Perspectives économiques mondiales (PEM). Cette révision à la hausse reflète celle des prévisions pour la Chine, les États-Unis, les grands marchés émergents et les grandes économies en développement, a noté le FMI. Néanmoins, les projections de croissance mondiale pour 2024 et 2025 se situent en deçà de la moyenne annuelle historique (2000-2019) de 3,8 %, ce qui est la conséquence de politiques monétaires restrictives, du retrait des aides fiscales et d'une faible croissance sous-jacente de la productivité, d'après l'organisation. "L'économie mondiale continue d'afficher une résilience remarquable alors que l'inflation diminue régulièrement et que la croissance se maintient. Les chances d'obtenir un atterrissage en douceur ont augmenté, mais la croissance reste lente", a expliqué Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, économiste en chef du FMI, lors d'une conférence de presse à Johannesburg, en Afrique du Sud. La croissance chinoise est estimée à 4,6 % pour 2024, ce qui marque une révision à la hausse de 0,4 point de pourcentage depuis les PEM d'octobre. Pour les États-Unis, la hausse est de 0,6 point de pourcentage pour s'élever à 2,1 % en 2024.
