L'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies a voté à une écrasante majorité contre l'embargo économique américain sur Cuba. 187 des 193 membres ont voté en faveur de la levée de l'embargo, et un membre s'est abstenu. Seuls les États-Unis et Israël ont voté contre. Le vote de mercredi a égalé les records précédents, atteints pour la première fois en 2019 et à nouveau l'année dernière. Le ministre cubain des Affaires étrangères avait vivement critiqué l'administration Biden et exprimé l'espoir qu'un nouveau président mette fin à l'embargo. Cuba accuse l'embargo d'être à l'origine des pénuries de carburant qui ont provoqué une panne d'électricité généralisée ce mois-ci, aggravée par l'ouragan Oscar. L'embargo a été imposé en 1960 à la suite de la révolution menée par Fidel Castro. Cuba et les États-Unis ont officiellement rétabli leurs relations en juillet 2016. Mais en 2017, le successeur de Barack Obama, Donald Trump, a de nouveau voté contre la résolution de l'ONU visant à lever les restrictions. Tensions in the Middle East continue to rise after an influx of displaced people in Beirut, the capital and largest city of Lebanon. More than 100 people were killed in an Israeli strike on a residential building in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya, China Media Group reported on Wednesday, as ceasefire talks are underway with Hamas signaling openness to discuss a new deal. Additionally, Palestinian media report continuous shelling in Jabalia and Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. The first stage of the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza does not include a cessation of conflict or a complete withdrawal, according to an Israeli broadcasting authority. Rescue efforts to relocate stranded residents across south China's island province of Hainan are in full swing following days of heavy rainfall triggered by the tail end of Typhoon Trami.
