Five social media influencers have been awarded $25 thousand dollars each by the the Digicel Foundation to execute a personal passion project that will ignite positive change in their communities. In November, as part of its ‘Making Christmas Wishes Come True’ campaign, Digicel invited social media influencers to vie for one of five project grants. From the 10 shortlisted, five received the judges nod: Daniel Lewis will use his funding to partner with the CREDO Foundation for Justice. Jessica James will use hers to empower and transform a group of women through fitness and general wellbeing. Meriah John will deliver a series of workshops on content creation for other influencers. Josette James will conduct a series of school tours promoting alternative careers. Odunmbaku Somorin will use his TT$25k to develop a space for creatives to make their dreams into a reality.

Seventy five families within the villages of Canaan, Bon Accord, and Crown Point were recipients of generosity extended by the Tobago Men Making a Difference Foundation. On Thursday, the organisation distributed vouchers to be used for grocery shopping through their initiative themed 'Unleashing the Spirit of Christmas.' President of the Foundation, Jaiye Melville, expressed that giving should become a part of the community. Mr. Melville made reference to a house fire which rocked the community on Wednesday as he stressed Christmas should not only be focused on material giving but displaying compassion. Tobago Men Making a Difference Foundation is known for their programmes aimed at supporting young men in the community.

THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine is calling for discussions to be had to devise more effective crime fighting strategies in Tobago. He made this statement during the Tobago House of Assembly's Plenary sitting on Thursday, coming on the heels of three murders reported on the island. Chief Secretary Augustine noted there needs to be frank conversations about the strategies to address crime in Tobago. He stated roadblocks are not enough. On Tuesday, the body of 39 year old Jenelle Thomas-Stowe was found in Mt. Irvine with her hands and feet tied. Less than 24 hours later, a double murder was recorded when gunmen killed 33 year old Akiem Frith, and 61 year old Frith Alleyne in Bon Accord, bringing Tobago's 2023 murder toll to 13.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services is advising that technical problems continue to plague recipients of the 2023 Christmas Food Cards which were issued to Members of Parliament for distribution. In a media release the Ministry says it has requested that First Citizens Bank Limited conducts thorough technical checks on all the cards, so that the errors are removed and defective cards could be replaced by the Bank in the shortest possible time. The Ministry says given these circumstances, Members of Parliament are required to put logistical arrangements in place, to have all defective cards returned as soon as possible, so that these could be replaced. The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services assures that all attempts will be made to have this problem rectified in a manner where clients will be able to conduct business, free of error and inconvenience, at all authorized merchant outlets. The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services apologises for the inconvenience caused, as this situation is beyond the Ministry’s control.

A viral video suggesting locally-produced Farmer's Choice hams were being sold in the US cheaper than in Barbados has prompted a response from the producers. Goddard Enterprises Limited, the parent company for Hipac, which is responsible for the Farmer's Choice brand, says the claim is not true. Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Mouttet says unfortunately a lot of misinformation has gone into circulation about the venture in recent days, including the notion that the hams sold in America are produced in Barbados. The second piece of incorrect information in the video relates to the price comparison. Meanwhile, the senior executive explains that the initiative in the US was actually a trial to test the market and it has proven to be very successful. He says despite the misinformation that was spread on social media, all of the hams in the New York and New Jersey markets have sold out and they are already looking towards next year to increase the level of production to coincide with different holidays and major events. The Barbados Water Authority is rolling out some measures to alleviate some of the problems its customers are having with muddy water from the Bowmanston Pumping Station. This was revealed during a news conference. Director of Engineering Charles Leslie, says they will be making some changes to lessen the hardship of customers served by Bomanston. A shift in the weather pattern resulting in heavy rainfall over a short period is being blamed for the heavy turbidity. Technical Advisor to the BWA board, Dr. John Mwansa listed several St. John communities ranging from Clifton Hall to Pool from which the runoff water enters the cave at Bowmanston and impacts the water supply. The BWA will be creating a special management area to which farmers will be asked to comply.
