A Michigan state senator from Kalamazoo is making headlines for a proposed expansion to Michigan's bottle deposit program, aimed at enhancing recycling efforts and reducing waste. Currently, the program offers the 10-cent refund for specific beverage containers like cans and pop bottles.

It will stay cloudy to start the day with some patchy fog. Temps will reach the low 50s despite the clouds with brighter skies returning by Saturday. Sunday brings another November warm up with highs in the mid to upper 50s.

A former Detroit Lions player is facing federal charges relating to the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol in 2021. Antwione Williams, 31, was arrested on Thursday and is accused of assaulting law enforcement during the riots.

Many would argue Nov. 15 a statewide holiday: it's the start of firearm deer season. It will run two weeks starting Friday through Nov. 30. Steve Carlson, a Hanson brother from 'Slap Shot' is also going to be on the ice. WXYZ sports director Brad Galli is joining Team Stahls' for another year.
