시간당 112㎜ 극한호우…열대저압부가 수증기 펌프질 [앵커] 기록적 폭염이 끝나자마자 이번엔 극한호우가 쏟아졌습니다. 진도와 창원 등에서는 시간당 100mm가 넘는 기록적인 물벼락이 떨어졌는데요. 9월에 장마철보다도 더 강한 폭우가 쏟아진 이유를 김재훈 기상전문기자가 전해드립니다. [기자] 순식간에 불어난 빗물이 파도처럼 밀려듭니다. 쉴 새 없이 쏟아지는 폭우에 차량들은 손쓸 새도 없이 잠겼습니다. 9월 하순인데 장마철 보다 더 강력한 극한호우가 쏟아졌습니다. 진도 시간당 112mm, 창원 시간당 109m의 기록적인 물벼락이 관측됐습니다. 장마철이 아닌 9월에 시간당 강수량 최고 신기록이 경신됐습니다 창원은 하루에만 500mm 안팎의 비가 쏟아졌는데, 1년 강수량의 1/3에 해당하는 양입니다. 이례적인 가을 폭우는 남쪽에서 밀려온 열대 수증기와 북쪽 찬 공기가 마치 장마철처럼 강하게 충돌했기 때문입니다. 특히 태풍 '풀라산'에서 약화한 열대저압부가 당초 예상보다 한반도 쪽으로 접근한 것도 원인입니다. 한반도에 바짝 다가온 열대저압부가 남쪽 수증기를 끌어올리는 역할을 하면서 폭우 위력을 더욱 키운 것입니다. 기록적인 물벼락을 쏟은 열대저압부는 일요일 동해상으로 물러납니다. 다만 비가 그치더라도 강한 바람에는 여전히 주의해야 합니다. '소형 태풍급'인 저기압과 북쪽 찬 공기 사이에서 기압 밀도가 촘촘해져 우리나라에는 강풍대가 만들어지기 때문입니다.
