AI에 위상 달라진 낸드…3분기 '메모리 효자' 기대 [앵커] 전 세계적인 인공지능 AI 붐에 메모리 반도체인 낸드플래시의 수요가 늘어 3분기도 호황을 맞을 것이란 관측이 나옵니다. 다만 기업으로선 깊어지는 메모리 양극화의 골은 고민인데요. 임혜준 기자의 보도입니다. [기자] 전 세계적인 인공지능 AI 열풍에 기업용 고용량 데이터 저장장치, eSSD 수요도 급증하는 모습입니다. 글로벌 빅테크들이 앞다퉈 구축 중인 AI 데이터센터 가동에는 방대한 양의 정보 저장력이 필요하기 때문인데, 이로 인해 eSSD에 쓰이는 메모리 반도체, 낸드플래시 몸값도 덩달아 치솟고 있습니다. 시장조사업체 트렌드포스에 따르면 2분기 글로벌 낸드 매출은 전 분기보다 14.2% 늘어난, 우리 돈으로 약 22조 5천억 원에 달했습니다. 낸드플래시 수요 곡선은 3분기에도 비슷한 양상을 나타낼 것으로 전망됩니다. 글로벌 낸드 시장을 70% 이상 점유한 삼성전자, SK하이닉스 등 국내 기업에겐 호재입니다. 낸드 실적에 힘입어 양사가 3분기 역대 최대 매출을 달성할 것이란 관측도 나오지만, 장밋빛 전망을 경계하는 목소리도 나옵니다. AI 용을 제외한, 전체 매출의 큰 부분을 차지하는 범용 D램의 수요는 주춤하면서 '메모리 양극화'의 우려 때문입니다. 중국 '달 뒷면 토양' 연구 첫 공개…"앞면 토양과 달라" [앵커] 지난 6월 달 뒷면에서 채취한 토양 샘플에 대한 첫 연구 논문이 국제학술지에 게재됐습니다. 앞면과 상당히 다른 구조라는 게 중국 연구진의 설명인데, 달 기원에 대한 기존 가설을 뒤집는 새 발견을 할 것으로 기대하고 있습니다. 베이징에서 배삼진 특파원입니다. [기자] 지난 6월 중국의 '창어 6호'가 인류 최초로 달 뒷면에서 채취한 토양. 1.9kg의 샘플 대부분은 분말 형태로, 모두 짙은 회색빛을 띠고 있는데, 10여개 유리 용기에 보관 중입니다. '창어 6호'의 채취 토양은 인류가 이제까지 채취한 달 앞면 토양과는 다르다는 게 연구진의 설명입니다. [리춘라이 / 중국과학원 '창어6호' 부국장] "'창어6호'의 달 샘플은 '창어5호' 샘플보다 장석 광물 등 백색 물질이 더 많이 포함돼 있었고요. 유리 파편이 훨씬 더 많아 '창어6호'의 샘플이 더 밝고 가볍다는 것을 알 수 있습니다." 중국이 달 뒷면에서 채취한 토양의 특성을 연구한 첫 논문을 발표했습니다. '창어6호'가 토양을 채취한 위치는 달의 지각이 매우 얇은 아폴로 충돌 분화구 가장자리에 있는 남극-에이트켄 분지입니다. 달의 화산 활동 역사를 기록한 현무암도 있었지만, 비 현무암물질도 다수 포함된 것으로 확인됐습니다. 다량의 산화알루미늄과 산화칼슘이 포함됐지만, 산화철 함량은 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다. 외계의 충돌이 더 많았을 것으로 추정되는 뒷면이 앞면보다 입자 기원이 더 복잡하다는 건데, 여러 물질이 혼합됐을 가능성이 있다는 얘기입니다. [류지엔준 / 중국 국립천문대 연구원] "'창어6'가 착륙한 곳이 운석 충돌 분화구 근처이기 때문으로 추정됩니다. 운석 충돌 시 분출물이 '창어6호'에 의해 수집됐을 가능성이 있다고 보는 겁니다." 인류는 현재까지 10차례의 탐사를 통해 380㎏의 달 토양을 채취했습니다. 중국 연구진들은 달의 초기 충돌 역사와 달 뒷면의 화산 활동 등 달의 진화에 대한 추가 연구를 진행해 달의 기원에 대한 기존 가설을 뒤집는 새 발견을 할 것으로 기대하고 있습니다. 베이징에서 연합뉴스TV 배삼진입니다.
