Il est couché sur une nappe à carreaux, les yeux tournés vers le ciel. Voilà sa grande passion. Tenter de comprendre ce qu'il se passe là haut, derrière ce bleu incandescent qui semble cacher bien des mystères. Adamski est prêt à s'endormir lorsque son oreille, comme par réflexe, l'alerte sur un bourdonnement qui devient assourdissant. Adamski plonge son regard dans le ciel. Ce bruit-là, il l'a déjà entendu : comprend tout de suite ce qu'il se passe. C'est un Ovni qui arrive. Autour de lui, le sable se soulève. Dérangé dans son calme olympien par ce bourdonnement qui de plus en plus s'intensifie. Si les autres à côté de lui ne l'entendent pas, c'est pour une bonne raison : c'est pour lui que les extraterrestres viennent. George les appelle de ses vœux depuis des lustres déjà. Il n'est donc pas surpris. Le reste de l'assemblée observe désormais un engin immense, en forme de cigare argenté, passe à toute vitesse au-dessus d'eux. Voilà comment l'épouse de George pourrait résumer au mieux ce qu'elle découvre. Son mari lui est planté à une centaine de mètres de là, comme fasciné. Ce tube d'argent virevolte dans le ciel à la manière d'un oiseau. Un nouvel ovni intègre le paysage et se dirige cette fois droit vers Adamski. L'engin se pose derrière l'une des collines qui borde le village fantôme, certainement à 600 mètres de sa position. Sans même regarder le reste de sa bande d'amis restés sagement en arrière, Georges prend la direction de la zone d'atterrissage, armée de son calepin, d'un crayon et de sa paire de jumelles. Il a l'impression d'être enveloppé, au contraire, d'une sensation réconfortante et apaisante. La soucoupe n'est plus qu'un réceptacle de la lumière solaire. Un humanoïde, à peine plus petit que lui appelle George. Ce qui surprend tout de suite le témoin de ces événements extraordinaires, c'est qu'aucun son ne sort de la bouche de son hôte. Pourtant, ces paroles distinctement, résonnent au fond de son crâne. Surpris, Georges s'avance vers l'inconnu. Il fait bientôt face à un visage accueillant, presque humain. La créature aux longs cheveux blonds qui lui descendent jusqu'aux reins est dotée d'yeux plus bleus que l'océan. Plus surprenant encore, elle a un prénom : Horton. Elle vient de la planète Vénus et cela fait déjà quelques années qu'elle observe Adamski, qui habite avec des amis dans un ranch non loin de l'Observatoire de Californie. Une conversation par télépathie s'engage alors entre les deux et l'extraterrestre ne tarde pas à développer ses craintes autour d'une guerre nucléaire à venir. La guerre froide est alors sur le point de faire basculer le monde dans la terreur la plus absolue. Adamski, fébrile, écoute les messages, les notes même dans son calepin. La combinaison spatiale d'Horton, aussi argentée que sa soucoupe, se tord sous les mouvements de son hôte. George s'aventure à demander s'il peut prendre une photo. Horton refuse et pire, attrape l'appareil et en extrait la pellicule. Adamski espère alors pouvoir grimper à bord. Mais d'un geste, l'extraterrestre lui fait comprendre que sa requête est refusée. C'est alors que subitement, la conversation s'arrête. Plus rien ne se passe. L'extraterrestre congédie Adamski avec quelques mots porteurs d'espoir : "Rassurez vous, Georges, je vous connais et je reviendrai". George, les yeux illuminés, salue de la main l'engin qui repart bientôt rejoint par le cigare d'argent, les deux vaisseaux regagnent les hautes sphères du ciel. Singapore's former transport minister, Subramaniam Iswaran, has been convicted of receiving gifts while in office, after he pleaded guilty before a local court. The 62-year-old was initially charged with corruption, but prosecutors amended these charges at what was supposed to be the start of his trial on Tuesday.
