C’est l’histoire d’une multinationale française du ciment, Lafarge, aujourd’hui Lafarge Holcim, qui en 2010 ouvre une énorme usine flambant neuve en Syrie, près de Raqqa, ville qui deviendra la capitale syrienne de l’État islamique. C’est l’histoire d’une entreprise qui, entre 2011 et 2015, a continué par tous les moyens à produire, dans un pays en proie à la guerre civile et à la dévastation. Y compris au prix d’arrangements financiers et commerciaux avec l’État islamique. C’est aussi l’histoire d’une plainte déposée il y a huit ans contre Lafarge par l’association Sherpa, pour financement d’une entreprise terroriste et mise en danger de la vie d’autrui. Mais aussi, et c’est son caractère inédit, pour complicité de crime contre l’humanité : une entreprise mise en examen pour cette raison, c’est une première mondiale. Dans Personne morale (éd. Actes Sud), Justine Augier raconte la détermination de ces juristes, toutes des femmes, qui ont rédigé la plainte et ont, avec d’autres, mené le combat judiciaire pour que le leader mondial du ciment rende des comptes.
