'Kingmaker' parties will have a lot of power in India’s new coalition government: Analyst
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured support from coalition partners to form the next government, after his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party failed to win a parliamentary majority in the general election. The Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United) have been called “kingmakers” by local media as they hold the alliance’s fate in their hands. Dr Rafiq Dossani, senior economist at American think tank RAND Corporation, told CNA’s Asia First that they are not “very ethical parties” and will get a lot of power in the new government.
