'Ridiculous': 'Australia Day' term scraped from Gabba cricket Test

Nationals MP Keith Pitt has criticised Cricket Australia after it announced it would avoid using the term “Australia Day” during the Gabba test match on January 26. “If Cricket Australia doesn’t want to mention the word Australia Day well what’s next, are they going to take it out of the name of the Australian cricket team and they can be the green and gold mob,” Mr Pitt told Sky News host Paul Murray. “It’s just ridiculous.” Cricket Australia said it will conduct a standard Welcome to Country ceremony on day one of the Test, which falls on Australia Day eve. Australia Day itself will be marked in passing by a ground announcer, however the term “Australia Day” will not be used.
