'Tariffs have got a long way to go': Former Labor advisor on Trump's trade policy

Hawker Britton co-founder Bruce Hawker has discussed the potential implications of Trump's tariffs on the Australian economy and its defence relationships with the United States. "Look, I think the tariffs have got a long way to go ... I think we're going to see some changes in the United States as my guess as the impact on Americans of the increased tariffs starts to be felt," Mr Hawker told Sky News Australia. "It's going to increase the cost of living. It'll have inflationary pressures. And it could also have employment implications as well. "So I don't really worry too much about the long term defence relationships between Australia and the United States, because I think we're a long way off being in a position where we're going to have to readily resort to them."
