'They left us alone,' displaced Gazan says about Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire | ABS-CBN News

Displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis said they felt both joy and frustration on Wednesday (November 27), after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect in Lebanon. While many welcomed the agreement for Lebanon, they said the ongoing conflict in Gaza left them grappling with their own situation. Crowds of Gazans were seen gathering outside a bakery in Khan Younis to grab some bread, while others scrambled to fill small containers with water. “Deep inside, I was happy for them (referring to the Lebanese people), but at the same time, I felt frustrated because they left us alone," said Hashem Abu Olba, a displaced Palestinian from Gaza City. “The people of Gaza are tired,” displaced Gazan, Umm (mother of) Manar Al-Najjar, repeated. “Just like a ceasefire happened in Lebanon, we hope and pray for a ceasefire here as well,” she added. A ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement came into effect on Wednesday after both sides accepted an agreement brokered by the United States and France, but international efforts to halt the 13-month-old war between Hamas and Israel in the Palestinian territory of Gaza have stalled. Without a similar deal in Gaza, many residents said they felt abandoned. In the latest violence, Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip killed 15 people on Wednesday, some of them in a school housing displaced people, medics there said. Months of attempts to negotiate a ceasefire have yielded scant progress and negotiations are now on hold, with mediator Qatar saying it has told the two warring parties it would suspend its efforts until the sides are prepared to make concessions.
