A remarkable discovery has emerged from Sambhal as an ancient stepwell, believed to be between 125 to 150 years old, has been unearthed in the Laxman Ganj area of Chandausi. This fascinating structure, spanning 400 square meters, came to light during an anti-encroachment drive and has captivated historians and locals alike. Featuring intricate brickwork on the upper level and stunning marble on the lower floors, this stepwell also boasts four rooms and a well, adding to its mystique. The excavation follows the reopening of the historic Bhasma Shankar temple, which had been closed for 46 years. Officials discovered the stepwell amidst ongoing efforts to reclaim the site. Local sources attribute the stepwell's construction to the maternal grandfather of the king of Bilari, hinting at its royal connection. The Sambhal District Magistrate, Rajender Pensiya, has stated that a survey by the Archaeological Survey of India is under consideration, with a potential request to ASI for further exploration.
