17 people have been injured in a mass casualty incident, which occurred around 8:40 a.m. along Belle Road at its junction with Barker Road, St. Michael. Police say the incident involved a collision between a pickup truck and a route taxi. 16 of the injured were from the route taxi, including the driver, as well as the passenger from the pickup truck. A medical doctor and eight Emergency Ambulance Service personnel provided on-site treatment. Eight individuals were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, seven to Fast Track at the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic, and two were treated at the scene and discharged. The injuries have been described as non-life threatening. Preliminary investigations indicate the route taxi was travelling from the City toward the Norman Niles Roundabout, when the pickup exited Barker Road and collided with it. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the District A Station at 430-7242/46.
