The first photo of Pope Francis since his hospitalization in mid-February has emerged from Rome, sparking a wave of positivity across Rome and Vatican City. The image, released by the Vatican press office shows the 88-year-old pontiff celebrating Mass in a chapel at his suite at Rome’s Gemelli hospital, where he has been battling a wave of complex health issues for the last month. The Pope, who has been receiving oxygen throughout his treatment in hospital, appears to be breathing on his own in the photo. He was initially admitted after having trouble breathing for several days. Since then, he had pneumonia diagnosed in both lungs and has experienced kidney troubles. Though future of the Pope’s position is currently unclear, faithfuls have been gathering, sending their prayers to the Catholic leader as he recovers.
