2 teens arrested in terror plot wanted to “kill large crowd” at Taylor Swift concert in Austria

Two teens – of the three suspects connected to terrorism threats against Taylor Swift’s Eras tour concerts in Vienna this week – have been arrested after plotting to “kill a large crowd” at either the Thursday or Friday night gig, according to Austrian officials. Detailing a conversation with the primary suspect, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, the Head of Austria's Directorate for Protection of State and Intelligence (DSN) said, “He expressed that he wanted to carry out the attack using explosives and stabbing weapons. We seized those weapons and he considered both options and his aim was to kill himself and a large crowd at the concert either today or tomorrow.” The 19-year-old had reportedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State militant group and had chemical substances at his home. He was detained along with a 17- and 15-year-old – one of which was arrested “and stopped” following questioning. Swift’s three-night run at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion were cancelled following the threats and were expected to draw roughly 195,000 fans. Though devastated by the unexpected cancellation, several fans expressed their gratitude that the decision was mad for them, in favour of their safety.
