Parliament has halted the processing of the Sugar Amendment Bill 2023 after the justifications for the amendments were not satisfactory. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa stood over the second reading of the government bill which sought to establish the Uganda Sugar Industry Stakeholder Council. The MPS found no room to abandon the Uganda Sugar Board as provided in the principal Act where government has failed to finance for the last two years of the Law. Tayebwa wants the Attorney General to respond accordingly.
