A private philanthropy is giving up to S$5 million each year to fund medical research projects, including one that could reduce heart disease risk in diabetics using low-cost medicines. That study is among the first three winners of the award from the Tanoto Foundation. The foundation's executive advisor, Bey Soo Khiang, shares its philosophy in helping medical research. Associate Professor Rinkoo Dalan from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, who is the lead doctor behind the project on heart disease in diabetic patients, also gives us more insight on what her study aims to achieve.
