38,000 animals slaughtered annually
Thirty-eight thousand animals are slaughtered in Barbados annually. The revelation came from Chairman of Southern Meats Incorporated, Sherwin Greenidge as he addressed a church service at the Calvary Temple Community Church, Groves, St. Philip, to mark the 25th anniversary of the company. Southern Meats presented a cheque to the church, Mr. Greenidge said it accounts for the lion's share of the slaughtering market. The chairman told the congregation, which included Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir, that an initiative that includes farmers' advisers, is already in place to improve the lot of the sector.
