The Union Cabinet has approved the 'One Nation, One Election' bill, aiming for simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Prime Minister Modi has called for increased awareness of its benefits. Opposition parties, including chief ministers M.K. Stalin, Mamata Banerjee, and Arvind Kejriwal, have expressed strong objections. The bill, expected to face parliamentary challenges, requires constitutional amendments and state ratifications. Concurrently, the Supreme Court has paused registration of new cases relating to temple-mosque disputes until reviewing the Places of Worship Act. Lower courts are instructed to halt existing cases, including Kashi and Mathura disputes. The Centre has four weeks to respond on the Act's validity, affecting multiple ongoing cases across India involving claims of temples beneath mosques. #onenationoneelection #constitutiondebate #parliamentwintersession2024 #oppositionprotest #constitutiondebate #electoralreforms #templedisputescases #kashimathura #parliamentwintersession #constitutionalamendment #onenationoneelection #simultaneouspolls #cabinetapproval #indiatoday #supremecourt #placesofworshipact Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
