ABC slammed over ‘woke’ messaging during New Year's Eve fireworks
The ABC has come under fire for its coverage of the New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney, with many viewers expressing frustration over "woke" messaging of the event. The national broadcaster has the exclusive rights each year to showcase the 9pm fireworks and the main event at midnight when most of Australia welcomes in 2025. IPA Director of Research Morgan Begg joined Sky News host James Macpherson to discuss the national broadcaster coverage of the big night. Mr Begg claimed that the ABC's decision to inject politics into the New Year's Eve broadcast was a mistake. "New Year's Eve is a very simple idea," he said. "People are in a mood of celebration, coming together to say farewell to one year and welcome in the next. It's a unifying occasion, but the ABC couldn't resist the opportunity to proselytise their own ideology. And it's exactly this sort of thing that's killing the ABC.”
