To have a better understanding of the latest changes in China, more international scholars with an academic focus on the nation are moving to the mainland and Hong Kong to conduct their research. They have a keen interest in understanding both sides - East and West - for a deeper understanding of their dynamics. Li Cheng and his colleagues are among them. Li used to serve as director and a senior fellow at the John Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution.
