AFCON 2027 UGANDA: FIRST LADY JANET MUSEVENI LAUNCHES ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs. Janet Museveni has inaugurated a Local Organising Committee and seven Sub Committees that are charged with effectively planning and executing a successful Africa Cup of Nations 2027 tournament in Uganda. In September 2023, the Confederation of African Football awarded hosting rights for the 36th edition of the AFCON 2027 to the East Africa joint Pamoja bid by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Among what had to be done in the interim was naming of a local organizing in all the Pamoja nations, a task that has been accomplished for Uganda. The AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee for Uganda is chaired by the First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Museveni, and deputised by the Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang. It comprises people of vast experience in different fields, including FUFA President Moses Magogo, national planning authority Executive Director Dr. Joseph Muvawala,Sports Commissioner Rev. Can Dr Duncan Mugumya,the deputy solicitor general Pius Biribononoha and Jacqueline Basemera who is the Secretary to LOC.
