Agreement reached to not increase egg prices
Barbadians can breathe a sigh of relief, they will not be paying more for eggs this Christmas. This is coming from Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security Indar Weir. He says following discussions with Management of Chickmont Foods Ltd., an agreement has been reached that the company will not be increasing the prices of imported eggs as previously announced. Chickmont explains in a letter while one million imported eggs cost the company 80 cents per egg, the management had to make a decision to do a blended increase of eight cents per egg on the present price from November 25, 2024. Meanwhile, Minister Weir is saying the importation of such a large quantity of eggs is not unusual, but is essential to supplement the supply at Christmas time.
