A partnership between Barbados and The City of New York is expected to better position the island to fight crime, among other things. The agreement was signed today by Minister in the Attorney General's Office with responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane, at his office. It ushers in a Sister City relationship, for which Minister Lane says discussions have been ongoing for some time between himself, deputy high Commissioner to London Mackie Holder, who is the former Consul General of New York, and present Consul General Lorenzo Harewood. Already information exchanges have started between Barbados and New York, but people exchanges and tours will begin January next year. Minister Lane says the signing of the agreement coincides with the centennial anniversary of the late Shirley Chisholm. He adds that there are also other sister city agreements to come on stream with Panama, South Carolina, and areas on the African continent.
