AI model developed at Toronto hospital helps doctors triage brain surgery
A team of doctors at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto has developed an innovative AI model designed to assist in the complex decision-making process regarding brain surgery for patients. According to radiologist Dr. Errol Colak, they want the model to run in the background, automatically process CT scans and identify patients requiring urgent neurosurgical intervention, generating automated alerts for physicians. The model isn’t meant to replace doctors. Instead, it’s designed to catch brain bleeds that could go undetected. Global's Katherine Ward explains.
