Alarm bells! - Worry as teenage pregnancy in Mayuge district shoots up

3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Rukiya Isaanga Nakadama and minister in charge of youth and children affairs, Dr. Balaam Barugahara have launched Engender Youth Mentorship Rural Programme and Skills Centre in Wante Village, Magada parish, Imanyiro Sub County in Mayuge District. The centre aims at curbing the high numbers of teenage pregnancies which pose various challenges in the area. According to data available, over 60,000 teenage pregnancies are reported almost every year in the eastern Uganda district. The skills centre launched by Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama and youth and children affairs state minister, Balaam Barugahara, is partly to offer economic empowerment to young girls and teenage mothers to mitigate a ‘repeat pregnancy.’
