Albanese 'not explaining' to farmers reason behind sheep export phase out

Nationals Leader David Littleproud has slammed the Albanese government for not “facing up” to Perth farmers who have expressed concerns over the phase out of live sheep exports. The government committed to the phasing out of live sheep exports from Australia by sea last year, but Mr Littleproud who met with concerned farmers said not much explanation has been given. “This government doesn’t have the courage of their own conviction,” he told Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio. “The Prime Minister was here a couple of weeks ago and didn’t have the courage to go and face up to these farmers and explain the science and the economics to phase out live sheep. “All we are doing is exporting animal welfare standards to countries like Ethiopia and Sudan who have less standards than us.”
