Sky News host Peta Credlin has criticised the Labor government's claim of good economic management, labelling the Albanese government’s surpluses as “accidental” and a result of high commodity prices. It comes as Treasurer Jim Chalmers defended Labor on economy as Deloitte tips budget deficit to plunge to $33.5 billion. Deloitte Access Economics’ half-yearly budget monitor report revealed the economy has been growing at the slowest annual rate since the 1990s (excluding COVID). According to Deloitte, the country's economic growth has been forecast to remain weak, with the federal budget set to worsen significantly. “Let's call it out let's call those two surpluses as BS because they are accidental surpluses,” Ms Credlin said. “I have been saying for about a year and a half these are good luck not good management. They're from the commodity sales of all the resources and the minerals that Labor wants Australia not to use wants Australia to ban that's keeping the budget afloat and that was also confirmed in the Deloitte analysis.”
