Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says an “extraordinary deal” between the government and Opposition will see Australians who want to go into aged care pay up to $13,000 a year extra for their care. Australians who want to pay for their aged care through interest from refundable accommodation deposits will pay tens of thousands more in capital from those deposits to pay for the upkeep of aged care homes. “It's all about making the aged care system more sustainable for the federal budget, with a focus on people staying at home for longer,” Mr Clennell said. “The government has provided more funds for home care as part of the package – a system which enables elderly people to have their homes fitted out and services provided to keep them at home longer.”
